Obnoxious Transfer of Worms from Dogs to Humans

Dogs are wonderful. A dog is called a man’s best friend. Almost everyone likes dogs. Dogs are the most common household pets. So what? They can be a threat to your health too. Yes, dogs have certain diseases which can be transmitted to human beings. Children are the most susceptible ones here. If you have a dog and a child in your house at the same time, then keep an eye on both of them. You never know when your child might pick up something and pop it in its mouth! If your dog is suffering from a worm infection keep it in a separate pet house outside the house or at least away from your child for some days.

Roundworm:

Well, these are the most common worms in dogs. While you treat them make sure they defecate in proper places. Generally eggs of roundworms come out with dog feces. If your dog plays in the lawn, the feces may be mixed up with the sand or soil. They break into very small fragments which are not perceived by the human eye. A child might accidentally consume those fragments while playing with sand or soil. The eggs are clever too. They only hatch after they reach the child’s intestine. There is no need to say that your child will immediately fall sick after this.

Hookworms:

This is another worm which is common in dogs. It can enter the human body in the same way that a roundworm enters. But it has one more advantage. It can also pass to the human body through the skin. Sounds scary? Yes, it can pass though your foot if you are walking barefoot on a beach which has hookworm infested sand. They can move under the skin. In humans when they do so, they generally cause itching and rashes on the skin. Another probable entry point for them is through the bum. Sometimes people sit on sand and talk about the beauty of sunset. You might not know that at the same time a hookworm is planning to enter the body through your buttocks.

Ringworm:

Though the name is ringworm, in reality it is a fungus. It is very contagious. Human can develop rings of scratches if they are infected. This infection is not uncommon in dogs and humans. Generally it is also accompanied by itching. There are many herbal and medical ointments that can relieve you from ringworm attack.

Tapeworm:

These worms are found on fleas. Dogs catch hold of this worm when they accidentally consume a flea. Humans cannot contract this disease from an infected dog. They have to eat a flea carrying a tapeworm to do that. If you have a pet dog in your house, don’t panic of tapeworm. The infection is not contagious.

Heartworms:

It is a fatal worm to dogs. But humans need not be frightened. Dogs can never transmit heartworms to humans. Moreover heartworms don’t consider humans as apt hosts. This is a boon to us!

Never kiss a dog on its lips. You may contract some of the most serious infections from them. Dogs generally keep their anuses clean with their tongue. Worms love to thrive on the anuses of dogs. Do you get the point now? Maintain hygiene at all times. Dogs have a trait to lick hands and whatever they feel like. So wash your hands with soap before you lay your hands on the double sized sandwich. It is a bit difficult to guard the children all the time. But there is no other alternative to it. Never allow them to put their fingers in their mouth while they are playing. Contaminated soil instantly gets an access to reach their intestines.

Vaccinate your dogs and keep them healthy and free of worms.
